CHARACTER NAME: 2B
CANON & HISTORY: NieR:Automata & History
AGE: unknown, mentally around early 20s
CANON POINT: after the Tower emerges and the ground collapses, causing her to fall
PERSONALITY: As a battle-worn soldier, 2B embodies many of the typical traits you'd associate with such a person: stoic, professional, loyal to her duty. Indeed, even without the blindfold-like visor assigned to every YoRHa soldier, 2B rarely shows her emotions, always the picture perfect presentation of calm and focused, at times even downright cold. She lets logic dictate her decisions, very rarely letting her emotions get the best of her. While most YoRHa androids freely disregard their creed of "Emotions are prohibited" with no consequences, 2B seems to stick as staunchly to that mantra as much as possible. Other units freely take interests and hobbies in common things like flowers or music, but 2B makes no mention of having such interests. When asked about her thoughts on a mission or objective, she'll more often than not refrain from giving a real opinion and say instead that they only need focus on the task at hand, no questions asked. To her, wondering about things that won't help with their objective or asking questions that don't have a concrete answer are pointless and futile efforts.

Of course, almost all of this is a manufactured front.

The reality is that due to 2B's true role of an executioner for fellow YoRHa units, her stoic demeanor is something of a necessity. When it comes down to it, 2B's personality type is programmed to be honest and kind, seemingly very at odds with her duty as an executioner, and an undercover one at that. What this means is that despite deceit being necessary for 2B, she's not particularly good at it. She has no real talent when it comes to lying or acting. In order to conceal her true intentions, she'll hide behind her cold attitude and professionalism, but even then that can only hide so much. Again, she's really no good when it comes to deceit, and she often exposes herself in physical ways: her fists clenched tight when angered, restlessness and being unable to keep still when worried. Even more importantly for her, that stoic front is how she tries to protect herself. It's easier for everyone involved if she doesn't become attached to her assigned targets, most especially herself.

Yet she fails time and time again at keeping herself unattached. Despite her best attempts not to show it, 2B cares about the people around her. She cares a lot. Even if she has no personal interest in flowers, she'll go out of her way to find rare ones and take pictures of them to send them to her operator since she can't leave the YoRHa base up in space. If someone needs help finding items or looking for someone, she'll volunteer herself for the job no matter how dangerous. It doesn't matter if the request comes from a fellow android or an enemy (albeit peaceful) machine, she'll do it. She'll even help a machine child makes its way back home after getting lost if asked. As the one personally issuing 2B's kill orders, YoRHa's Commander was directly responsible for much of 2B's suffering, but she still tried desperately to save her when things spiraled so wildly out of control. Perhaps the one time she manages to lie successfully is when she lies to 9S in order to force him somewhere safe while she draws enemy fire onto herself as a decoy. No matter how she tries to hide it, 2B cares about the people around her. If she could, she would save everyone.

In particular, she would do anything to protect 9S. He means more than anything else in the world to her. As her primary mission is to kill him and delete his memories should he begin looking into classified information about YoRHa, 2B has killed countless number of times. No matter how hard she tried not to care about someone she knew she would eventually have to kill again, it didn't work. Her most precious memories are of spending time with him, of fishing together or exploring with him. Perhaps moreso than anyone else, 2B is extremely aware of the inherent futility of the androids' fight and purpose, of how they're trapped in a seemingly meaningless cycle of life and death—how could she not be when she helps perpetuate it against a fellow android? Yet the time she spends with 9S gives her a reason to keep going on, even when she knows that it'll only end once more in pain. Being able to see him again is more important to her than her own well-being. The only times her emotions get the best of her are when 9S's life is in danger due to outside forces, and the only time she manages to successfully deceive him is when she lies to him to force him off the battlefield and draw enemy fire onto herself alone as a decoy. After her death, 9S manages to find a message left by her where she essentially calls him the light of her life, saying that her memories of him are like "pure light." To say she cares about him more than anyone or anything else is an understatement.

Despite all of this, not everything's so doom and gloom when it comes to 2B. While she never really talks about it, she has a real fondness for fishing. To her, a good day is being able to spend a whole day doing nothing but fish in peace. As long as she has some animal bait on her to approach them, she's somehow developed the skill to ride on giant boars and moose. There's also something of a thrill-seeker in 2B, even if her apparent dedication to duty and professionalism would make you think otherwise. Depending on the circumstances, she enjoys a good challenge and things that really push her to the limits of her abilities, even put her life at stake. As a soldier, she's long since accepted dying on the battlefield in service to the cause, but on some level, she enjoys a true challenge.

POWERS: As an android built for battle against machines, 2B is superhuman in regards to strength and agility. She can withstand damage that would be lethal to a regular person, and a barehanded punch from her alone would probably be fatal to anything not made of metal. When it comes to combat, she's skilled in using one-handed swords, two-handed swords, spears, and bracers.

She's also capable of self-destructing, either by taking out her black box—a necessary and key core component for all YoRHa units—and touching it to another to cause an explosion, or just releasing a massive energy explosion from her body. While the former definitely kills her, the latter leaves her alive but a single attack away from dying.

Some of her functions as an android, such as being store countless items despite having no pockets or make her weapons disappear and reappear at will, are thanks to a combination of advanced technology (of course) and magic. She has attacks like sending a wave of energy with the slash of her sword that make some use of magic although she can't actually wield magic herself. When it looks like her weapons float just above her back, it's actually thanks to magnetism. Her skills can be changed and upgraded by installing different chip programs.
OTHER: Being a 300+lb fighting machine, 2B cannot swim to save her life. Speaking of things that can kill her, eating mackerel has a 100% fatality rate for her.

GAME INFO;

MAGIC ABILITY: The ability to befriend animals. This means that animals will quickly warm up to her even if she doesn't really do anything, allowing her to pet them or hold them or even ride them if they're large enough for that. However, this doesn't mean that she can actually speak with animals or understand them. She won't be able to translate what a cat is saying to someone else or vice-versa.
PRICE: Pod 042.
ACCLIMATION: 8. Being an android designed for a seemingly endless war, 2B is more than used to getting thrown into situations with little information. Her skills and the fact that she needs very little to actually maintain herself also make her great at surviving. Given the fact that she believes she died though, the entire situation will still throw her for a huge loop as she'll have no idea what to make of her being alive again.
